Vauhti GS Base Sticks
Base waxes, also known as binder waxes, are nearly always worthwhile to apply.
The usual concept is that they improve durability and are thus only needed when skiing a lot of k's, or in abrasive snow conditions. That is a limiting concept, as a properly chosen and applied base wax can also improve grip without degrading speed.
Vauhti Base AT doesn't stand out to us much more than base/binder waxes from other companies; it is a solid choice in any snow condition but is best in fresh or falling snow. Always apply very thin, and heat it in for best results.
Vauhti Base Super is in a category by itself. In our experience there's no comparison, this stuff is an absolute must have. Incredibly tough, this is the marathon day base wax of choice. In hard or heavily glazed tracks Base Super will almost certainly boost the grip of any kick wax applied on top. We also like to mix this wax with other waxes - Base Super mixed with a little wide-range kick wax can deliver amazing grip and speed under the wax of the day. In abrasive and damp snow we have also mixed it with KS Base klister, which can be faster than Base Super on its own. You definitely need this wax! One warning, not to be used if snow is falling.
